From February 21st to 23rd, 2025, the Kengkou Lettuce Market was held in Liwan District, Guangzhou, featuring folk cultural activities.

The event, which has been around for more than 300 years, attracts numerous residents from both Guangzhou and Foshan every year. This year, it continues various traditional folk activities, including the "searching snails and clams," "getting lettuce dumplings," "lettuce banquet," "spinning windmills," and the "eight-lion parade."

Lettuce is one of the main symbols of the Kengkou Lettuce Market. Lettuce is called Shengcai in Cantonese, meaning bringing wealth. It is believed that passing through the Lettuce Market will naturally lead to prosperity. This year, around 6,000 kilograms of lettuce will be prepared, and visitors to the Guanyin Temple can take home lettuce dumplings. The lettuce dumplings are packaged in a red plastic bag and contain two lettuce and two arrowheads. The lettuce must have both a top and a bottom, symbolizing completeness in life and work, while the arrowheads are thought to bring good fortune to those hoping for children.

Another highlight of the event is the lettuce banquet, where neighbors gather in harmony. This year, over 1,600 tables have been arranged. To partake in the lettuce banquet, guests must eat lettuce dumplings, which are made by wrapping ingredients such as clam meat and pickled vegetables in washed lettuce. Additionally, special dishes with auspicious meanings, such as lettuce fish balls and braised meat with arrowheads, are also featured as signature dishes of the Kengkou Lettuce Market.

传承300多年！2025年坑口生菜会举办

2月21日至23日，2025年广州荔湾坑口生菜会民俗文化活动举办。

有着300多年历史的坑口生菜会民俗活动每年都会吸引众多广佛两地市民参与。今年坑口生菜会延续摸螺摸蚬、请生菜包、吃生菜宴、转风车、八狮巡游等多项传统民俗活动。

生菜是坑口生菜会的主角之一，生菜，粤语谐音“生财”，行过生菜会，富贵自然来。据介绍，今年坑口生菜会准备了约1.2万斤生菜，市民到观音庙可以请一份生菜包带回家。生菜包由红色塑料袋包裹，里面有2棵生菜和2个慈姑，其中，生菜必须有头有尾，寓意做人做事有交代；慈姑寓意求子人士能添丁。

坑口生菜会的另一个特色是摆设生菜宴，乡邻相聚，和和气气。今年坑口生菜宴设置了1600多围。吃生菜宴必须吃生菜包，用洗净生菜包裹蚬肉、酸菜等食材，另外，带有好意头的生菜鱼丸、慈姑焖肉也是坑口生菜宴的特色菜。
